Our Staff Networks

A number of staff networks have been set up to represent and offer support to members of staff from a wide variety of backgrounds

Carers Staff Network:

· Build a network of colleagues who are carers providing a safe space to get together in a supportive environment.

· Celebrate carers achievements and contributions to the success of the organisation.

· To support an inclusive and positive approach, enabling the Trust to attract and retain a workforce that is representative of the population that it serves.

· To raise awareness and support the development of actions to support carers within the Trust.

Enable Network - Network Objectives:

. Inspire and provide support to disabled staff.

. Support the development of visible role models for disabled staff by celebrating the achievements and contributions of members.

. Raise awareness of the issues disabled people face within the Trust and engage with the Trust to address these issues

LGBTQ+ Network:

. Work together with other departments (YorSexual Health) for the

. June Pride in York and March representing the Trust and the Network.

. Re-vamp the social Network meetings and use new technology to engage more with new and old Network members - with success!

. Recruit new members to the core committee, but also engage more members in running the network.

. Celebrate, recognise and share women’s achievements and successes at all levels through events and communications.

What the Networks do

  • Work across York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals to make positive change
  • Raise awareness and reduce stigma
  • Provide a safe and confidential space for staff to discuss what is important to them
How we support our staff
  • Investing in the health and wellbeing of our staff, including a commitment of offering flexible working where we can
  • Being a disability confident employer and in line with the disability confident scheme guarantee an interview for all applicants who share their disability and  meet the essential criteria
  • Making reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment and selection process for those with a physical or hidden disabilities, including those who are neuro-diverse
  • Working with marginalised groups, to increase representation and inclusive practice throughout the Trust through our Networks
  • Offering our staff a wide variety of training and development opportunities, access to mentors and peer support groups to support their personal and career development objectives

Cultural Competence

· Understand culture and its importance for people

· Explore different cultural models and consider the impact within the workplace

· Dive in to discovering the impact of cultural differences within everyday interactions

· Discuss how individual and cultural preferences can influence interactions and working practices

· Consider empathetic approach to building an environment of cultural sensitivity and competence

· Identifying opportunities across our interactions, language, communication, and practices

· Apply a practical approach to actions that can be taken following the session

· Session will include open discussion, exercises, quizzes, and takeaway tips

Inclusive Recruitment

This complements the Trust’s Recruitment and Selection training and is aimed at all staff with recruitment responsibilities. It will be delivered online for 3 hours. More information to come.

• Application Form tips and Interview Skills – This theory and practice workshop will be delivered online for 3 hours and is aimed at Staff network members in the first instance.
