We have patient facing clinical roles such as our Research Nurses and Research Practitioners but also a big support team setting up and running research studies, processing samples, prescribing medicines, and handling research data and documentation. I have been working in Research for over seven and a half years. I started as a Clinical Trials Assistant in Cardiology Research and have been able to progress throughout the years and have now become a Research Practitioner. This role has grown over the last four years, we are now a team of seven across York and Scarborough. As a Research Practitioner we have our own portfolio of research studies that we take lead on as a team, we also work very closely with the Research Nurses in helping them deliver a myriad of disease/disciplines of research studies across our caregroup structure. I love research and find this role very rewarding, no two days are the same, I work with some incredible people. I have been able to progress in my career and continue to do so, there are plenty of developmental opportunities. The research work I do is very interesting and very varied, I worked on multiple Covid – 19 studies during the pandemic, which rose the profile of research dramatically, this is something I am proud to have been a part of in such uncharted and unprecedented times. York and Scarborough Hospitals achieved and delivered some of the ground-breaking treatments that became Gold standard of care in the treating of very sick and vulnerable patients with Covid-19.
